Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (OWTS) Demonstration Site

Showcasing Practical, Sustainable Solutions for Wastewater Management

The Onsite Wastewater Training Center (OWTC), located adjacent to the Watershed Center in Springfield, Missouri, serves as a hands-on demonstration site for wastewater professionals. This outdoor classroom showcases a variety of alternative onsite septic systems and innovative stormwater techniques, helping installers, regulators, and homeowners better understand the technologies that protect Missouri’s water.

The OWTC is part of a broader initiative supported by a Section 319 Nonpoint Source Implementation Grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Through community outreach, system demonstrations, and training events, the center highlights how failing septic systems can impact water quality, and what can be done to address them.
